Swamp Gospel

from C0OL PO0L (Beeliar Riddim) by C0OL PO0L

/

lyrics

We wander through the fog,
through the 'spirits of the night',
rises like 'incense of the earth'
while we try to make sense of this life.

See that tennis court, those manicured lawns?
That used to be a food bowl,
but now it's gone.
And I'm homesick,
calling out like this
for something that I never knew but know I miss.

Secret, sacred places
We've covered up
Wetland traces
sing that swamp gospel loud.

Intricate biophonies
spill onto the street
underneath the road rivers,
living waters seep.

See that tennis court, those manicured lawns?
That used to be a food bowl,
but now it's gone.
And I'm homesick,
calling out like this
for something that I never knew but know I miss.

Secret, sacred places
We've covered up
Wetland traces
sing that swamp gospel loud.

Dedicated to Nandi Chinna and her writings on Homesickness and John Ryan, Environmental Humanities lecturer at ECU.
